Purpose: To evaluated the stressors associated with the use of various GPS systems.
My Role: User Researcher
Method: There were a total of 6 participants who were tasked with creating individual collages that expressed their experience while driving and using a GPS. Participants where allowed to discuss their collages to give deeper insight on their experiences.
Interesting Findings: An average of 5 to 10 minutes is spent entering in a destination. People do not regularly update their GPS. Most participants rather use the touch screen instead of voice command to input locations in order to avoid errors.
Recommendations for GPS systems: Improve voice activation. There is a need for faster load time when there are detours, alternate routes and recalculation. Allow automatic updates on devices or give reminders to do so.
